There are numerous options available to you for taking a holiday in Gites Haute Savoie (gites haute savoie in French) ranging from camping to top class hotels. Gite accommodation if selected correctly will provide you with loads of flexibility for you and your family. Camp sites and hotels don't tend to be able to provide that level of choice for reasonably obvious reasons. You can decide whether you want to prepare your own food, eat out or get a take away.
The self catering option presents the opportunity for keeping costs to a reasonable level, looking after yourself costs less than having to pay for bed and breakfast or hotel accommodation. Clearly all types of holiday accommodation can provide some of these benefits but none I believe offer the full package as well as self catering accommodation.

Not a requirement for everyone but very desirable for some people especially if their home life is spent in close contact with neighbors which they may not always get on with.
